$18.5 Million HUD Grant For Hillsdale Terrace

Post Thumb

Work starts this summer on third HOPE VI redevelopment

Families living at Hillsdale Terrace can look forward to a brighter future, thanks to Home Forward's plan to revitalize the distressed public housing community. Armed with a HOPE VI grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, Home Forward is set to embark upon a $47.3 million redevelopment of the public housing property.

The project gets underway this summer with resident relocation and design work with residents and neighbors to finalize amenities, services, and architectural plans. A general contractor will be selected by early fall, and construction is expected to begin in summer 2012.

Bud Clark Commons Tackles Homelessness

Post Thumb

A packed house turned out to applaud the June 2 grand opening of the Bud Clark Commons, a building that brings together temporary and permanent housing with a daytime resource center for people experiencing homelessness. Portland City Commissioner Nick Fish, pictured above at right opening the gates with the building's namesake, former Portland Mayor Bud Clark, called it an "old-fashioned barn raising, where the entire community pulled together to make the project happen."

Developed and owned by Home Forward, the sustainably-designed building is expected to earn LEED Platinum certification. Home Forward is managing the building and the 130 apartments that will provide homes for the most medically and socially vulnerable people living on Portland's streets.
