Some New Columbia Waiting Lists to Open May 27

Waiting lists for some of New Columbia’s subsidized apartments will open starting Tuesday, May 27.  The waiting lists, which are for four-, five- and six- bedroom apartments, will remain open indefinitely.

The apartments have either public housing or project-based assistance subsidies, with residents paying 28.5 – 31 percent of their income toward rent.

There are preferences for terminal illness, seniors and persons with disabilities, and households with at least one adult who is working or pursuing post-secondary education or a job training program.  In addition, the public housing apartments have a preference for applicants earning less than 30 percent of the area median income.

“This is a terrific opportunity for families who need larger homes,” said Steve Rudman, Home Forward’s executive director, “In our tight rental market, we know large families with limited incomes struggle to find affordable places to live.  These homes come with all of the benefits New Columbia residents enjoy, which include a village market with heathy options and a host of activities at McCoy park, the Regence Boys and Girls Club, and the Charles Jordan Community Center."
