Home Forward Wins HUD Support for Hiring Residents

Home Forward was one of 12 out out of a field of 85 housing authorities nationwide to receive a grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to increase hiring of low-income individuals.  The agency will use the $50,000 award to help fund its activites in support of these goals.

Home Forward has an aspirational goal to award 20 percent of construction contracts of more than $100,000 to emerging, minority-owned and women-owned small businesses.  At the same time, the agency has aspirational goals for apprenticeship hours on these projects and promotes hiring Home Foward residents in several different ways.  More than 36 Home Forward employees were hired in 2011 as part of the agency's program to hire individuals with low incomes.
