National Initiative to Change Perceptions of Public Housing Launches

A national industry group is challenging Americans to question their sometimes negative perceptions about public housing.  Research conducted earlier this year revealed that the overwhelming majority of Americans believe U.S. citizens deserve a safe and decent place to live.  Yet most of those surveyed do not support public housing in their own neighborhoods, nor do they want to live near a public housing unit.

The new initiative, ReThink Housing, asks Americans to change their perceptions by learning more about the positive impact public housing has on individuals, families, and communities.  It was developed by Housing Authority Insurance, Inc. (HAI, Inc.) with support from trade partners in the industry.  Singer-songwriter Jewel, who once was homeless, is the ambassador for ReThink.
