Home Forward Selected for Second KaBOOM! Playground Build

For the second year running, KaBOOM!, the national non-profit organization dedicated to giving kids the childhood they deserve by bringing play to those who need it most, has selected a Home Forward apartment community for a playground build.  This year's build is in conjunction with Foresters, a life insurance provider committed to the well-being of families.

The playground will be created at Rockwood Station, an apartment community with 195 homes located in Gresham's Rockwood neighborhood.  Foresters, Home Forward, and KaBOOM! will kick the process off with a design day on May 21 where residents young and old will spend time designing their dream playground.  Their drawings will be used to create the design for the new playground.

After it is designed, the playground will be built in a single day on July 20 by volunteers who will include Rockwood Station residents, community volunteers, and staff from Foresters, Home Forward, and Guardian Real Estate Services, the firm that manages the property.

The playground will be available to the wider community in addition to Rockwood Station residents.  There are several adjacent apartment communities, including another Home Forward property, Rockwood Landing.  The new playground will give children in these homes a safe place to play that can be reached by walking without crossing busy streets with heavy traffic.

"This is great news for the community and for our residents," said Steve Rudman, Home Forward's executive director.  "We want to thank KaBOOM! for selecting us again and Foresters for supporting this very valuable effort."  Rudman said the property could not afford a playground on its own.

Last year, KaBOOM! selected Home Forward's Gateway Park apartments for a playground build.  The result is a well-used playground enjoyed by residents and neighbors alike.
