Help Welcome Vets to Their New Homes

Home Forward has joined its government and non-profit partners in Operation 305 to support a welcome home kit donation drive for veterans in the Veterans Assistance Supportive Housing (VASH) program.

We hope you can help us.

Operation 305 is a community effort involving Home Forward, the Portland Housing Bureau, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Multnomah County, the United Way, and many community partners. The group was determined to get VASH vouchers into the hands of homeless veterans as quickly as possible and help them overcome barriers to finding a home. The vouchers, funded by the VA and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, pair rent assistance with supportive services.  In Multnomah County, they are administered by Home Forward and the VA.

Thanks to the success of the collaboration, all 305 of the VASH vouchers assigned to Multnomah County are in use, and Home Forward has just been awarded another 55.

Many of the vets served by the VASH program lack the necessities that make a house a home. The June drive is seeking donations of a range of basic household items. The goods will go directly to a veteran family or individual transitioning into permanent housing after weeks, months, or even years of living on the streets.

The drive runs through July.  You may drop donations off at the Bud Clark Commons, 665 NW Hoyt St., 24 hours a day.  Call Stacy Borke at 503-280-4720 or email sborke@tprojects.org for more information.
