Community Cycling Center Receives Grant for Bike Hub at New Columbia

New Columbia residents and neighbors are the beneficiaries of work the Community Cycling Center is doing to broaden access to bicycling and spark initiatives to help families become more active.  The nonprofit has received a $10,000 grant from a national coalition of bicycle retailers and suppliers to build a bike skills park and bike hub in one of the last two undeveloped lots at New Columbia.

There is growing enthusiasm for bicycling at New Columbia, thanks to the variety of earn-a-bike programs the Community Cycling Center has delivered since 2009.  In addition to serving as a location to teach bike skills, the new hub will help community members train their neighbors to fix bikes and provide storage for tools.

Almost half of New Columbia's 2,500 residents are children, creating a tremendous need for activities to keep kids healthy.
