How Do I Apply?
Many Home Forward apartments are operated by independent property management companies. You’ll find the phone number and location of the leasing office listed with the property information when you search or browse for apartments on this website. To apply for these apartments, simply visit their leasing office in person.
Some Home Forward apartments are funded with public housing or project-based Section 8 subsidies. They have a centralized application process, as explained below.
1. Confirm Your Eligibility
Visit the “Am I Eligible?” page on this site to make sure that you qualify.
2. Check the Open Waiting List
The demand for these apartments is very high, so we maintain a waiting list for applicants. In most cases, you may only apply when a community is added to the Open Waiting List. The estimated waiting time can range from a year to several years for some apartments.
Currently, waiting lists at all of our public housing communities are closed.
Visit the “Public Housing Apartment Wait Times” page on this site to see which communities are close to being open for applications. We will normally add a community to the Open Waiting List once the wait time for that community is shorter than 12-18 months. This list is regularly updated on the first business day of each month.
You may qualify for a priority status which would allow you to apply for our waiting lists at any time, even when waiting lists are closed. We offer priority status to applicants experiencing a terminal illness, who have been diagnosed with a life expectancy of less than 12 months. We also offer priority status to applicants who require the features of Americans with Disabilties Act (ADA) accessible homes. A medical provider will be required to fill out a Priority Verification Due to Health or a Priority Verification Requiring Unit with Accesible Features form to be eligible. Call 503-280-3750 for more information
3. Visit the Communities
If you are interested in applying to a community on the Open Waiting List, we recommend that you visit the property in person to see what it’s like. You may also speak to a representative at the community leasing office.

4. Fill Out Your Application
When a waiting list is open, you can download an application in your language using these links: English • Russian • Spanish • Vietnamese
Everyone who is planning to live in your apartment must be listed on your application, and your application must be filled out completely. If you have questions about the application, just give us a phone call or visit a community leasing office.
5. Bring in Your Application
Applications are accepted in person at our leasing offices for the apartment communities with open waiting lists. Anyone listed on the application who is 18 years or older must be present and show valid a photo I.D. at the time you bring in the application. There may be additional options or guidelines for applying that will be posted at the time the waiting list is opened. Once your application has been accepted, you will receive a confirmation letter within five business days.
6. Keep Us Notified of Changes
Once you are placed on the waiting list, it is your responsibility to notify us of any change to your mailing address, phone number, or the size of your household. If you don’t report these changes, your application may be cancelled.
